We have a current requirement for a lead electrical design engineer to join our design function based in Glasgow on a hybrid working basis. The role of the Electrical Lead Designer is to manage the production of discipline specific engineering design deliverables for a range of multi-disciplinary projects predominantly within the Water Industry. You will be involved in the project from initial scope development, through detailed design and supporting construction.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Provide management support on projects across the business in the design and optioneering exercises to develop initial client concepts or requirements into workable solutions.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients to identify their exact requirements.
  • Attend site-based surveys to understand the needs of a given project, including meeting client representatives as well as gathering information and data to inform the optimum design solution.
  • In conjunction with other disciplines on the project, manage detailed design tasks to client stage gate and approval specifications.
  • Manage the production of design deliverables for specified projects alongside other team members and contribute technical guidance to projects as required.
  • Check/Approve design packages produced by other designers.
  • Present designs at internal review meetings and external client review meetings such as HAZOP’s and Technical Authority reviews. 
  • Proficient in transformer/generator/switchgear/electrical installation design and selection including equipment and system specifications, design schedules and calculations, GAs, SLDs, CBDs, earthing, technical design risk assessments, cost, and programme estimations.
  • Knowledge of PLC/SCADA/Instrumentation/Telemetry assessment, selection and design
  • Knowledge of industrial networks and communication devices, including fieldbus technologies such as Profibus DP, Profibus PA, Ethernet, ProfiNet etc

 

 

To be considered for this position you will have at least 3-5 years previous design experience ideally within an electrical engineering or construction environment As Lead Designer, the ideal candidate should have a solid background in electrical engineering with strong technical expertise. They should have experience in leading a team and be able to manage and mentor other members of the team. Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and other stakeholders is also essential for the role.
